What is a Squarely?

A Squarely is a logic puzzle played on a 5x5 grid with 25 individual cells. The solution for the puzzle requires the solver to place the digits 1 through 9 in the grid in such a way to satisfy two simple rules.

The Squarely puzzle is solved when all the cells are filled. The solution is unique and can be found using logic alone. No guessing is required.

Strategies

As you play, new strategies unfold.

The puzzler must use logic in combination with the row, column, and diagonal sets to deduce exactly which cell contains which number. A productive stratgy could begin with locating the loner cell and determining some of the diagonal cells. Of course, how you proceed from there is "Squarely up to you!"

  1. Find the "Loner"

You can always find a cell that only has one possible number. The "Loner" starts with only one possibility. It is basically a gimme.

  2. Find your center

In Squarely, the more interesections between rows, columns, and diagonals the easier it is to find the right number. The center cell has four!

  3. Take notes

Even if it is unclear which number belongs in a cell write down the possibilites. Later the other options will be eliminated, making it clear what belongs.
